Would Jesus support health care reform?

An interesting read shared by my friend Kendra. I am really torn about the Obamacare debacle. I really think it is just a political tactic on the Obama side, not really focused on helping those in need. Last Thursday I stumbled upon the story of Jesus feeding the 5000(+). One thing that struck me about the story that I hadn’t noticed before was what Jesus says to his apostles when they flip out about where all the food is going to come from:
Phillip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish, but what good is that with this huge crowd?”
“Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said…. Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people… And they all ate as much as they wanted. – John 6:7-12
While I was upset about Obamacare being upheld, I am trying to be positive. God is still in control. We are striving to be thankful for what we’ve been given, and remember how Jesus shows in this story that he will provide enough for us.

Editor’s note: This piece ran earlier this year, but we’re spotlighting it now because of Thursday’s health care decision from the Supreme Court. The story generated more than 3,000 comments, including these two:

Jesus would SO have been a democrat. He taught us to care for the sick…not to profit off illness. I don’t know how Republicans can live with themselves and call themselves Christian.

What’s your take?

  1. Hey thanks for sharing this article. It is interesting article….it covers a lot of viewpoints.
I think the health care companies definitely need to be held accountable for their actions. I think things are still not stable and everyone is worried and upset…..there’s no way everyone can be happy with the outcome of things. But we have to have faith that things can and will get better and do our part to affect the people around us positively.
