The Before: More Pictures of Our New Place

Many people have expressed interest in seeing more pictures of our new house, so I’ll oblige.  We are closing the deal on Wednesday if all goes well!  I’m so excited to get going on all the projects we want to do.  As you’ll see from the pictures, there is a good bit of work that needs to be done.  If anyone finds themselves bored on a Saturday and feels handy, come on over and I will hand you a paintbrush. Movin’ On Up

Hello friends,  it’s terrible that I haven’t posted in over a month!  Work has been quite busy, and as it turns out purchasing a house is quite a process that also demands lots of time and energy.  There were some updates I wanted to let you all know about, but I was kinda afraid I would jinx it or something if I put it on the blog.  Do you ever feel that way?  Like when you have great news but it isn’t for sure yet and you have to keep it under wraps?  It is really difficult for me.  I think that’s why I haven’t been able to even think about posting anything else here.  But I think I can safely spill the beans now…. Our Other New Year’s Resolution

Good morning!

So if you read my last post you know that I, like everyone else in America, has a weight-loss-related New Year’s resolution.  It is going pretty well so far, but slow going ha!  I’ve lost three pounds.  Which always reminds me of Regina George from Mean Girls.reginageorgeAnyway, we have another really exciting resolution – Husband and I decided that we are going to buy a house this year!  Yay!!  We didn’t really want to move into an apartment after we got married, but since we had relocated from Dallas and got new jobs we weren’t able to qualify for a mortgage just yet. :(  But we knew it was something that we wanted in the near future, so it’s always been in the back of our minds. Black Friday and Seeing Red [and Green]

I did Black Friday this year.

Well, sorta.  I went to one store.  And I was only out and about for one hour.  But I think that is really some sort of Black Friday miracle feat.  My American Christmas consumerism guardian angel was watching over me and my wallet.

Here’s how it went down: I knew I wanted to get Husband a nice watch for Christmas.  He’s been hinting about it for a long time.  That man has a mild obsession with dress watches.  When we went to pick out our wedding bands he was practically drooling over the watch case.  Anyway, I wanted something really nice for him, and we decided our Christmas budget for each other this year was $200, so I really had something to work with.  Enter Black Friday.  Kohl’s had Men’s Bulova watches on a ridiculous sale; some were 75% off!  I inwardly rejoiced.

So off I went at midnight.  I thought to myself, This is a relatively small city we live in, and our Kohl’s is off the beaten path – there won’t be hundreds of people in line!  I’ll just show up about 30 minutes before the store opens and I’ll be good to go. Continue reading

I’m a New Woman

Hi everyone!

Well, I’m back.  Not just back from our trip (which was great!!  I will post pictures soon.  Teaser – I totally climbed a mountain!), but I feel like I’m back to my normal self.  I’m no longer making meticulous to-do lists every time I have a spare moment.  I’m no longer tallying every single fat gram and calorie that passes my lips.  I’m no longer sending out mass texts regarding ties or shoes.  I’m no longer tanning.  I’m no longer obsessing about finding the perfect shade of coral.  And you know what?  It feels so great.

Plus, being married is awesome.  My brother gave us a really funny card that listed reasons why being married is great.  Most of them were hilarious because they were true.  One of my favorites was “There’s a 50-50 chance someone already unloaded the dishwasher.”  Lucky for me, Jared is super neat and tidy and I have a 75-25 chance he has already done the dishes.  Which is pretty awesome, because I hate doing dishes.
